The Telamon shipwreck off Lanzarote

The Telamon sank on 31st of October 1981 off the coast of Lanzarote, about a mile northeast of the port of Arrecife. On it's last trip it had a charge of tropical tree trunks on board carrying them from the Ivory Coast to Thessaloniki when it came in distress off the Canary Islands. In the autumn of 2016 the "Hoguera de San Juan" sculpture fell down due tue a storm. It was dismanteled and disposed immediately... So it's already a historical photo :-)

Ich war damals dabei, als das Schiff auf Grund lief. In der Anlage Famara hatte ich direkte Sicht. Teiel der Crew kamen in das Lokal und berichteten. Der Kapitän soll betrunken gewesen sein. Dann wurden mit kleinen Booten Crewmitglieder an Bord gebracht um das Schiff zu entladen. Öl wurde in Kanistern abtransportiert. Bilder, die ich nie vergessen habe.

Wenn Du von Famara aus gesehen hast, wie das Schiff gesunken ist, dann war es nicht dieses hier. Aber Du hast Recht, vor Famara ist vor langer Zeit auch ein Schiff gestrandet, man konnte viele Jahre die Überreste des Wracks direkt vor dem Famara Strand aus dem Wasser ragen sehen. Einer der Tropenstürme in den 2000er Jahren (2006, Delta ???) hat es dann endgültig versenkt, heute sieht man nichts mehr davon...

From what I've seen, the shipwreck is cordoned off, so it's probably no longer possible to dive there

The Sundowner over Famara

After days with plenty of rainfalls on Lanzarote the sun came back this afternoon. This photo was taken just before sunset on top of the Risco de Famara mountain near the Ermita de las Nieves. One sees in center below Famara with its wide sandy beach.
