The coast of Los Hervideros, between the Playa de Janubio beach with its black sand and El Golfo in the south of Lanzarote, is one of the most beautiful of the entire island. Here, the four elements meet so obviously, which makes this place so fascinating. Los Hervideros El Golfo is also the place to be the first choice on Lanzarote to enjoy of a sunset. In our small neighboring village Guatiza, about 5 minutes by car from Charco del Palo, an Italian restaurant called Tasca de Lita has been established for a few years. It is a popular change for our holiday guests to eat outside of Charco del Palo. The kitchen is, of course, Italian, as well as very good and also regarding the staff and the friendly service there I must say the same. It... read more...

The Bougainvillea is one of the plants which attracts my attention most since I live here on Lanzarote. Countless of the often shrubby plants with their gnarled trunks and their marvelous blossoms in different colors adorn the gardens and facades of the houses here on Lanzarote. So I did not have to run far to make these photos, unfortunately only in three colors, that was owed to the short distance...... read more...

Cochinillas and Tuneras

19.10.2017
Blog Charco del Palo
The coastal landscape close to Charco del Palo is characterized by plantations of a South American cactus species, which we call here Tunera (an Opuntia). Although these cacti also produce fruits, in their time they were not cultivated because of them. The real reason for the plantations was the cultivation of Cochinillas - a louse living on the leaves of the cactus. That is why they removed the thorns from the... read more...

At present, a wonderful late summer weather prevails. Nearly no winds, the sea is perfectly calm and the tide is at its peak just before sunset. Our holiday guests are enjoying this wonderful evening atmosphere with a cool bath in the tidal pool. The backlight photo viewing out on the sea which shows the lava rock so beautifully black was created yesterday morning. The other photos I took last evening... read more...

This evening, when driving back from Arrieta, I saw this wonderful evening light and felt the need to catch it with my camera. Even if the Arrieta bay is not really an anchor bay, there was a sailing boat anchoring and enjoying the nice wheather, the very calm winds from Southwest, together with the mood you see on these photos.
